Qamar is a four-star hotel in Karbala that has welcomed pilgrims of Imam Husayn since 2016. It has 12 floors and stands on Al-Shuhada Street near the Al-Ahyaa bus station.
It is about 500 metres from the shrine of Imam Husayn, roughly a seven-minute walk, a little further than Almas and Dur Qasr Al-Kadhimiya.
Its rooms are varied, with one single room on every floor, which makes Qamar a good choice for solo travellers in Karbala. There are also several large suites. Most rooms, and the lobby, have both squat and Western toilets.
The restaurant on the twelfth floor has a 360-degree view, much of it over Bayn al-Haramayn. A spacious lobby with tea and coffee, and a large husayniyya on the lower floor that hosts congregational prayers most of the year, are among its other facilities.
About ten years on, the building is showing its age and cannot compare with Karbala’s new hotels. On the other hand, Qamar’s food is still among the best in Karbala. The hotel also runs a shuttle to the shrine.
