Dar Diyafat Al-Aqila is on Al-Shuhada Street in Karbala, behind Almas and Dur Qasr Al-Kadhimiya hotels. It is about 100 metres from the Aqila courtyard and about 500 metres from Bab Al-Ras of the shrine of Imam Husayn.
The building opened in two phases about a year and a half apart; rooms in the second phase are better built and better equipped than those in the first.
The management and most staff are Iranian, and the food suits Iranian tastes. How meals are served varies with the number of guests: sometimes as set plates, sometimes a main dish with a salad and side buffet, and on busy days a full open buffet.
Next to the main entrance is a large husayniyya that hosts religious gatherings through the year and is used to house pilgrims during Arbaeen. Rooms are mostly triples and quadruples, with a desk, tea maker and safe; some rooms have windows onto the street.
A low price and a short walk to the Aqila courtyard are why pilgrims choose it. But given the limitations below, from room size and crowded beds to uneven meals and no fixed rate, Nebras’s advisers do not recommend staying here. If budget is decisive for you, look at other options in the list of hotels in Karbala first, or ask our advisers to suggest a hotel that fits your budget.
