Worth knowing

  • The hotel shuttle is poorly organised on the way back from the shrine.
  • On occasions such as Arbaeen, mid-Shaban and Arafah, traffic restrictions around the shrine, crowds and congestion may limit the shuttle; we do not recommend staying here at those times if you cannot walk to the shrine.
  • The food is poor, and we have repeatedly had complaints about the service and the staff.

About Royal Karbala Hotel

Royal Karbala is one of the largest and best-equipped hotels in holy Karbala. It opened in summer 2023, in time for Arbaeen, and is the main rival of Baron Hotel. Its main advantage over the Baron is that it is much closer to the shrine of Imam Husayn: it is on Al-Qazwini (Al-Mukhayyam) Street, about 700 metres from the shrine.

The walk to the shrine takes under 10 minutes, but guests can also use the hotel’s free shuttle, which runs around the clock to Al-Shuhada Street near Almas Hotel. A separate shuttle to the shrine of Abbas runs from 10 am to 10 pm.

Large, well-equipped rooms, two-person suites, a rooftop coffee shop overlooking Bayn al-Haramayn, a large, attractive lobby, a swimming pool and a games room are among its features.

Royal Karbala calls itself five-star, and its building and lobby are genuinely impressive, but its looks do not match the experience of pilgrims who have stayed there. Pilgrims who stayed there with Nebras have repeatedly reported problems with service, poor food and unhelpful staff. That is why we do not list Royal Karbala as five-star.

Because of these problems, Nebras does not take bookings for Royal Karbala. If you want a five-star standard in Karbala, see Baron Hotel, or choose from the hotels in Karbala and message us on WhatsApp for advice.
