Karbala Rayhaan was run for years by Rotana Hotels. After the COVID-19 pandemic closed Iraq’s borders, the Rotana contract ended and the name changed from Rayhaan by Rotana to Karbala Rayhaan. Some booking sites still list it under the old name.
It is on the street leading to Bab Baghdad and, compared with most hotels in Karbala, is a long way from the shrines: about 1,400 metres from the shrine of Abbas and about 1,500 metres from the shrine of Imam Husayn. Getting to the shrine really depends on the hotel shuttle, so it is not a good choice if you plan to walk.
Its conference halls, which can host events and meetings of up to 250 people, together with its large spaces, make it a good option for groups and large tours.
Worth knowing before you book: during its Rotana years Rayhaan was one of Karbala’s best hotels, but since that contract ended its service and upkeep have noticeably declined. It still calls itself five-star, but Nebras’s on-site assessment does not support that rating, so we list it as four-star and do not rank it alongside Karbala’s premium hotels such as Baron Hotel.
Still, its low price on regular dates is its main advantage. If budget matters most and using the shuttle is no problem, Rayhaan can be a good economical choice; if a short walk to the shrine or a higher standard of service matters more, see the closer options among the hotels in Karbala.
