Aqila is one of Kadhimiya’s older hotels, welcoming pilgrims since before 2002, and it is very close to the holy shrine of Imam al-Kadhim and Imam al-Jawad: on Bab Al-Qibla Street, 120 metres from the shrine.
Its very short walk to the shrine and its good restaurant lead many pilgrims to overlook the shortcomings of the old building and choose Aqila for their stay in Kadhimiya. In spring 2024 a major renovation also fixed many of the old building’s problems.
Something many pilgrims value: there is no security checkpoint between the hotel and the shrine entrance, which makes the trip easier, especially for older pilgrims and those who visit the shrine several times a day.
